If Lindstrom wants to remain a vital community, it faces many challenges. One of the most obvious is to enhance its main street so that it remains vibrant and becomes more appealing.

Lindstrom is unique, but it is also typical of small towns and cities in America. New economic challenges to small towns are propelling those, which will survive, and even thrive, to find creative ways to enhance the town's image along main street, e.g. the streetscape.

Main street improvements in other towns and cities throughout America have shown that civic pride and a stronger sense of community grow with each enhancement.

Lindstrom is unique in having an impressive business community with high quality shops and businesses, as well as lovely historic residential streets, such as Newell and Maple, and vibrant new neighborhoods, like Town and Country. Through the foresight of the Mayor, City Council and City Administration, Lindstrom is even more unique in having set aside funds dedicated to the enhancement of Lindstrom's Business District. Tax Increment Financing for Hardees and Scottsdale Mall has created funding for new streetlights and sidewalks on Highway 8 and First Avenue in the business district. This may be a modern miracle: civic improvements through good planning, rather than increased tax assessments!

A diverse, energetic committee has been formed and is in the process of developing a streetscape plan. The committee includes City Administration and Staff as well as business owners and citizens. Since January, the committee has met almost weekly and has defined the scope of the project. Initially, this will involve decorative streetlights and new sidewalks along Highway 8 from Linden to Olinda Trail and on First Avenue from Linden to Elm. Eventually, attractive signage, benches and new trash receptacles will be added. The committee is extremely aware of the importance of the project causing a minimum of disruption on main street.

This is a community project and the Committee invites you to add your comments, suggestions, and ideas as the project progresses. There is an information table and suggestion box in Lindstrom's Public Library. "Goals are dreams with deadlines."
